Instituut Clingendael lanceert Buitenland Barometer

Hoe denken Nederlanders over de ontwikkelingen in het buitenland en Europa? En wat vindt en verwacht u van ons buitenlands beleid?

Omdat het publiek debat en het beleid gebaat zijn bij kwantitatieve gegevens hierover, hebben we samen met onderzoeksinstituut Kieskompas de 'Buitenland Barometer' ontwikkeld. In dit opinieonderzoek peilen we regelmatig onder maar liefst 23.000 Nederlanders hoe zij aankijken tegen internationale ontwikkelingen en het buitenlands beleid van Nederland.

Vanaf deze maand presenteren we - in aanloop naar politieke buitenlanddebatten - de resultaten per thema. Denk hierbij aan de meningen over Rusland, China, asiel en migratie en veiligheid en defensie.

Gesprekken met publiek en beleidsmakers

In samenwerking met mediapartner AD worden de resultaten zo regionaal en persoonlijk mogelijk gepresenteerd en organiseren we gesprekken met beleidsmakers en het publiek. De minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Stef Blok zal hiervoor op 28 september het startschot geven.

“Het buitenlands beleid werd lang niet besproken en gepolitiseerd door politieke partijen. En als dat gebeurde verliep het niet via verkiezingsprogramma’s en debatten rond verkiezingen, maar via referenda, met een dreigende polarisering en vertrouwensbreuk tussen ‘de elites’ en ‘het volk’. In afwezigheid van een georganiseerd publiek gesprek, dreigen nieuwe scheidslijnen in de samenleving verder te verharden, bijvoorbeeld op basis van opleidingsniveau of mediagebruik, en wordt Nederland kwetsbaarder voor ondermijning.”

However, radicalisation or recruitment was less visible, or at least less observed until it became a policy priority to monitor violent extremists in prison in 2015. This chapter, which is part of a broader report, analyses the specific policies and tools that have been developed in Belgium to address the challenge of radicalisation in prison, and the rehabilitation of terrorist offenders after their release.
