Madison Beer shot to stardom thanks to a single tweet from Justin Bieber. In July 2012, Bieber tweeted a YouTube link of Beer covering Etta James’s “At Last,” writing, “wow. 13 years old! she can sing. great job. #futurestar.”
But, Madison Beer is so much more than someone who Justin Bieber made famous — she has made an entire career in the music industry. In February 2018 we wrote, “Who Is Madison Beer and Why Does She Have Over 10 Million Followers on Instagram?” But now, Beer is even more famous. Shall we break down 18 things to know about the Jewish singer?
1. Beer was born in 1999 in Jericho, Long Island to a Jewish family.
2. She has one younger brother, Ryder.
3. She attended Point O’Pines sleep away camp in upstate New York, a not explicitly Jewish camp but a camp where mainly all of the campers are Jewish, ya know? She wrote on Instagram (since deleted), “shoutout to camp point o pines. you taught me everything i know.”

4. She had her bat mitzvah in 2012. At her party, she sang an original song, “Life’s a Beat.” Yes, you can watch it:

6. After Bieber tweeted about Madison Beer (just four months after her bat mitzvah!), she signed to Bieber’s label, Island Records, managed by Scooter Braun. (Yes, that Scooter Braun.)
7. In seventh grade, after the tweet, Madison recalls, “I got to walk into school one day and be like, ‘Haha, Justin Bieber signed me, so f*ck you guys.”
8. After that, Madison, her mom, and her brother moved to Los Angeles.
9. She released her first single, “Melodies,” in 2013, and her second, “Unbreakable,” in 2014. Bieber appears in the start of the video for “Melodies,” and the video is just so 2013:
10. Both those singles failed to chart, and Madison decided she didn’t like the Island Records vision of Madison Beer: “No one was on the same page as me. They wanted me to be ‘Melodies’ and teeny bop, and I was like, ‘No!’ I wanted to punch everyone and break out of the shell, but I was restricted by my age.” In 2016, she left the label.
11. After she left, she focused on “being on Instagram,” which she thinks was a mistake.

13. As She Pleases “was my way of just letting the world know who I was, because I feel like I was so misunderstood. Because I have this big social media platform, and I would post this or do that, people had this idea of me, and I wanted to change that and let them know who I really was,” Madison says.
14. In August 2019, she signed with Epic Records, and in 2020, started releasing new music, including two singles off her new album, Life Support: “Selfish” and “Good in Goodbye”:
15. Switching tracks… in March 2020, on International Women’s Day, Beer opened up about how nude photos of her were leaked when she was only 14 years old, and the shame and anxiety that followed.

We just feel like we should end on this note: Madison is a big fan of Rick & Morty, and there’s a dialogue between them on a new track in her upcoming album. “I won’t tell you what song it’s on, so you’ll have to listen to every song to find out, but at the end of one of my songs, there’s a full Rick and Morty dialogue, in my album,” she said. “Luckily I’ve become friends with [Justin Roiland, the voice of Ricky and Morty], which is peaking of my life by the way. It’s all downhill from here.”
