GEORGE WASHINGTON'S MOUNT VERNON
Three Dollars for Triple Impact
There are just a few hours left to give in support of #GivingTuesday and we are $125K away from our goal! When you make a donation through our Mount Vernon Preservation Challenge, supporters like you will triple your impact on preserving this beloved estate for decades, even centuries, to come.
Donate
Thanks to the special generosity of Karen Buchwald Wright who has issued the fifth and final year of the Mount Vernon Preservation Challenge, every $1 you donate will be matched with $2 of her ownfor urgently needed preservation work that will safeguard Mount Vernon’s future, including:

  • Critical restoration of the North Garden House to ensure the structural stabilization of the building’s framing, and re-covering the bell-shaped roof with cypress shingles.

  • Preserving the Mansion’s exterior by stripping the paint, making repairs to the siding, doors, windows, and shutters, then applying a fresh coat of weather-resistant paint and sand to the Mansion’s iconic rusticated siding.

  • Sourcing rare building materials that are a spot-on match for materials used in the 18th century so visitors today see the estate precisely as it appeared in Washington’s time.

  • Stabilizing the riverbank upon which Mount Vernon was built, launching long-term efforts to guard against the problems posed by erosion and landslides.

Please make your #GivingTuesday donation to Mount Vernon. Remember, every dollar will be matched by two dollars, tripling your impact in support of the estate and our ability to promote George Washington’s legacy for decades into the future.

Sincerely Yours,

Doug Bradburn, Ph.D.
President and CEO

P.S. As you know, Mount Vernon receives no state or federal funding!  We are 100% reliant on the generosity of Americans like you. So please, make a #GivingTuesday “Matching Gift” to Mount Vernon, and help give our high-level preservation projects a much-needed boost in 2020. Thank you!

EGMONT Institute: Extremist Offender Management in Belgium

Extremist Offender Management in Belgium By Thomas Renard (27 July 2020)  In Other publications EU strategy and foreign policy, Middle-East / North Africa, Terrorism The presence of terrorist convicts in prison is not a new phenomenon in Belgium. However, radicalisation or recruitment was less visible, or at least less observed until it became a policy priority to monitor violent extremists in prison in 2015. This chapter, which is part of a broader report, analyses the specific policies and tools that have been developed in Belgium to address the challenge of radicalisation in prison, and the rehabilitation of terrorist offenders after their release. This chapter (view the PDF below) was published as part of the report “Extremist Offender Management in Europe: Country Reports” published by ICSR, and available here .
