At Brill, we strongly believe that the Humanities, Social Sciences and International Law are areas of scholarship vital for addressing today’s global challenges. We want to share how this research impacts society and how it can help find solutions to the questions of our time. This is why we created the Brill Blog on #HumanitiesMatter featuring podcasts, articles, and interviews with our authors and editors who discuss how their research impacts our world. Listen to our podcast on Brexit, or read about the progress of women’s movements in South Sudan, and more. #HumanitiesMatter.

The Civic Citizens of Europe
The Legal Potential for Immigrant Integration in the EU, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom
Moritz Jesse

‘The book is an important read for scholars of law and other disciplines, who are interested in the topics of migration, integration and citizenship. The thorough, insightful and provocative analysis offered by this book can be intriguing for anyone working with migrants and their families to better understand and critically view the EU and national legislation regarding immigrant integration.’

EGMONT Institute: Extremist Offender Management in Belgium

Extremist Offender Management in Belgium By Thomas Renard (27 July 2020)  In Other publications EU strategy and foreign policy, Middle-East / North Africa, Terrorism The presence of terrorist convicts in prison is not a new phenomenon in Belgium. However, radicalisation or recruitment was less visible, or at least less observed until it became a policy priority to monitor violent extremists in prison in 2015. This chapter, which is part of a broader report, analyses the specific policies and tools that have been developed in Belgium to address the challenge of radicalisation in prison, and the rehabilitation of terrorist offenders after their release. This chapter (view the PDF below) was published as part of the report “Extremist Offender Management in Europe: Country Reports” published by ICSR, and available here .
