THE ROCKEFELLER FOUNDATION: The world loses when we lose moms

The world loses when we lose moms.
Every day, 830 women around the world die from pregnancy and childbirth-related complications. This affects women everywhere, from Sierra Leone, where the maternal mortality rate is the highest in the world, to the United States—one of the only developed countries where maternal mortality is on the rise.

The causes of maternal mortality run deep, and are often rooted in the social, cultural, and economic fabric of society. But nearly all of these deaths are preventable. Up to 98 percent of all pregnancy and childbirth-related deaths can be avoided by providing the quality, respectful care that women deserve throughout their lives and around childbirth. The RockefellerFoundation is committed to raising awareness around the world about preventable maternal deaths and being part of the solution.

To bend the curve on maternal mortality, The Rockefeller Foundation is making major new investments in digital health equity—leveraging more and better data to connect every level of a country’s health system, helping community health workers, doctors, and public health officials work together to deliver quality, equitable care to those who need it most—starting with mothers and children. By investing in strong, nimble health systems that leverage digital health innovation to better serve the most vulnerable members of society, we will be able to protect the health of mothers and their children—and save millions of lives.
Now is the time to fight for moms.

EGMONT Institute: Extremist Offender Management in Belgium

Extremist Offender Management in Belgium By Thomas Renard (27 July 2020)  In Other publications EU strategy and foreign policy, Middle-East / North Africa, Terrorism The presence of terrorist convicts in prison is not a new phenomenon in Belgium. However, radicalisation or recruitment was less visible, or at least less observed until it became a policy priority to monitor violent extremists in prison in 2015. This chapter, which is part of a broader report, analyses the specific policies and tools that have been developed in Belgium to address the challenge of radicalisation in prison, and the rehabilitation of terrorist offenders after their release. This chapter (view the PDF below) was published as part of the report “Extremist Offender Management in Europe: Country Reports” published by ICSR, and available here .
