This is a public event organised by the Knowledge Platform Security & Rule of Law (KPSRL). For further information and registration click here.
The Annual Conference of KPSRL brings together the brightest minds in the security and rule of law community and beyond to critically engage with the most pressing questions in the field. Through interactive exchanges in workshops, debates, and discussions, the Platform aims to extract lessons and best practices that will help to shape security and rule of law policy.
The content of the Annual Conference is split between sessions conceived and organized by the Secretariat and sessions submitted by members of the Platform network. The Conference offers a venue for you to open yourself to new ideas, connect with peers from across the globe, and help to build a cutting-edge body of knowledge in our field.
The keynote address will be delivered by Prof. Frances Stewart, Professor Emeritus of Development Economics at Oxford. on the role of horizontal inequalities in the context of current policy, with a focus on the ongoing migration crisis, the policy responses it has provoked, and the underpinning assumptions. Topics of debate are amongst others citizenship, migration and conflict, gender (in)equality, youth participation in politics, and the role of business in peacebuilding

However, radicalisation or recruitment was less visible, or at least less observed until it became a policy priority to monitor violent extremists in prison in 2015. This chapter, which is part of a broader report, analyses the specific policies and tools that have been developed in Belgium to address the challenge of radicalisation in prison, and the rehabilitation of terrorist offenders after their release.
